What to expect

Triptych art is three-panel wall art designed to hang as one composition across a wide wall — including triptych canvas-style layouts as framed archival prints, and triptych landscape photography when the work is a set.

Best for

Long walls above sofas and sideboards; also shoppers comparing triptych art with staircase multi-panel hangs.

Triptych wall art for wide walls

  • Three-panel sets hang as one composition — ideal above sofas and sideboards.
  • Triptych landscape photography and abstract triptychs both belong here when the work is conceived as a set. Coastal three-panel works also appear in Seascape.
  • Leave a small gap between panels so the image reads as one piece, not three frames.

Quick answers

What is a triptych?
Three panels conceived as one composition, hung with a gap between them. Ours are 45 × 100 cm each, spanning 145 cm of artwork and about 172 cm framed.
How much wall does a triptych need?
About 2.1 metres. The framed set is roughly 172 cm wide and needs clear space either side to sit properly.
What gap should I leave between triptych panels?
5 cm. Closer and the mounts merge into one band; wider and the panels stop reading as a single work.
Is a triptych the same as a set of three prints?
No. A triptych is one image across three panels and cannot be rearranged. A set of three is three complete images hung together.
Are these canvas?
No. Each panel is an archival paper print, mounted and framed behind glass — not stretched canvas.
How high should I hang a triptych?
Centre at 145–150 cm from the floor, and 20–25 cm above a sofa back.
