What is a diptych?
Two panels conceived as one composition, hung with a gap. Ours are 47.5 × 100 cm each — 100 cm square of artwork, about 118 cm framed.
What is the difference between a diptych and a triptych?
Two panels against three. Ours are 118 cm and 172 cm framed, so a diptych needs about 1.4 m of wall and a triptych about 2.1 m.
How much wall does a diptych need?
About 1.4 metres, which suits a standard two or three-seat sofa, a chimney breast, or the wall above a double bed.
What gap should I leave between the two panels?
5 cm, the same as a triptych.
Can I hang the two panels in different rooms?
Not without losing the work. A diptych is one image divided; separated, neither half is complete.
Are these canvas?
No. Each panel is an archival paper print, mounted and framed behind glass.
